Ozempic® is FDA approved to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in addition to diet and exercise as well as to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and known heart disease. While it is not FDA approved for weight loss, it is used off-label for weight loss. Wegovy® is FDA approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol), for use in addition to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. While the compounded versions also contain Semaglutide, the compounded versions are not FDA approved.
